A free shipping bar is not a reason to add another $8–15/mo app.
Most themes do not include a live cart-threshold bar. The App Store will sell you one. You can also paste a small file into the theme and own it.
What the bar actually does
It reads the cart total, compares it to your free-shipping threshold, and shows how much is left.

That is a cart message plus a fill bar. It is not a shipping contract, a carrier integration, or a new Shopify plan.
Three ways to add it
1. Theme setting, if it exists
Open Online Store → Customize → cart page or cart drawer. Search for shipping bar / progress. If your theme already has the block, use it. Do not install an app on top.
2. One file in the theme
Add a snippet or a Custom Liquid block. Paste once. Set the threshold. Style it to the theme. You keep the file when you cancel everything else.
3. A monthly app
Fine if you want a dashboard and you accept the bill plus another script on every page. Skip this if you only need the bar.
Why the bar disappears in the cart drawer
This is the usual break.
The cart drawer is not in the DOM when the page first loads. A script that runs querySelector on first paint gets null. The bar never mounts. Refreshing the cart page looks fine. Opening the drawer does not.
Fix the mount. Wait for the drawer to exist, then attach the bar. Do not add a second app because the first one did not show.
Theme updates can move the drawer markup. If that happens, you change the selector and paste again. That is cheaper than a second subscription.

Yes. Use a theme block if you have one, or paste a snippet / Custom Liquid file.
Will this work in the cart drawer?
Only if the script mounts after the drawer exists. If the bar is missing in the drawer and visible on the cart page, that is the mount order — not a missing app.
Does this set up free shipping itself?
No. Create the shipping rate or discount in Shopify Admin. The bar only displays progress toward that threshold.
What if my theme updates?
Re-paste and check the drawer selector. You still own the file.
Is this only the shipping bar?
